As one of PRS's top independent dealers, we often have the privilege of heading out to their factory in Maryland to pick out all of the woods and specifications for a unique and exclusive run of guitars that can only be purchased through our shop! Look at how ridiculous that top is! It's ok if you drool all over it since it already looks like rippling water anyway. Quilt so deep you could drown in it! The flame on that neck is so strong you'd think the guitar might spontaneously combust!
This is THE guitar for anyone looking for a vintage sound out of a modern-feeling (and looking) axe. The vintage-voiced 58/15 pickups are Paul Reed Smith's take on an improvement to the holy grail PAF pickups of yesteryear. They provide excellent warmth when playing clean and enough output and mid-range to keep your tone distinct and articulate when using distortion. With a solid foot in the door of vintage sounds, this guitar still has the versatility of cutting through and always being clear. This PRS also sports a neck profile that feels comfortable in your hands, is easy to maneuver around on, and yet doesn't feel like you're playing a toothpick. It's the kind of axe you'll never want to put down. The fit and finish is absolutely sublime on this and the flame maple neck and fretboard provide just the right amount of brightness and high-end spank to allow you to slice through any mix, no matter how dense it might be. The bass response is tight and punchy while the treble is present and cutting without being too shrill. It's very much like what you'd expect to hear on a record after a world-class producer is done mixing your guitar tone... Except there's no post-mastering needed with this bad boy! String bends are effortless, the tremolo is precise as can be and maintains perfect intonation, and the fretwork is a simply exquisite. This is a PRS Custom 22 through and through, just with a few extras that you can't otherwise get from PRS. It'll have a hint of extra treble and brightness compared to a traditional Custom 22 with mahogany body/neck and rosewood fretboard.
Playability is simply off the charts and attention to detail, from top to bottom, is nothing short of immaculate. If you're looking for a PRS Custom 22 that's going to stand out from the rest of the bunch with a versatile but vintage sound, this will absolutely hit the mark!
The Custom 22 is a classic workhorse with all the tones you’ve come to expect from your PRS with a distinctive vintage sound and clarity thanks, in part, to its 58/15LT pickups. These pickups are wired for our 5-way blade switch, which offers a dual humbucker option (see switching positions below). The Custom 22 also features a PRS patented Gen III trem and comfortable solid artist grade flamed maple pattern neck. Along with the flame maple fretboard, which is normally only available on Artist Package and Private Stock guitars, the following options are exclusive to this wood library run and cannot be had on any other CORE PRS: Swamp Ash Body / Quilt Maple 10-Top / Artist Grade Flame Maple Neck, Fretboard, and Headstock Veneer / Custom Color River Blue w/Natural Back
