There's never any question as to the quality of the instrument you're getting when you get any PRS guitar, but there's something magical with these Private Stock instruments. They're simply unlike any other PRS guitar out there. For this one, we started with a Custom 24-08 model, a versatile take on the venerable Custom 24 with individual coil-split switches, and chose a gorgeous Blood Red Dragon’s Breath finish.

The beautiful matched curly maple top pairs well with the stained curly maple neck when you spin the guitar around. The finish staining process is always done by hand, and they all come out a little different - we're absolutely thrilled with how this particular Blood Red Dragon's Breath application came out! The back of the neck is equally vivacious, featuring another highly-figured piece of stained curly maple that gives you something real nice to look at while you play.

The swamp ash body chosen for this masterpiece adds some robust resonance and focused tone to the unplugged sound of this guitar, which translates well to the electric voicing. There’s a distinct sustain and attack to it that’s slightly reminiscent of a vintage T-style guitar, which pairs well with the TCI pickups. Add the exotic Ziricote fingerboard and headstock veneer, and now you’re cooking! To top it all off, abalone and mother of pearl adorn the instrument throughout.

For 2024, PRS has opted to use the TCI pickups from the Paul's Guitar for this model, which adds an unprecedented amount of versatility, balance, and tonal identity to this guitar, as well as standing out even further in the best way from the regular Custom 24. The TCI humbuckers maintain a punchy and focused tone in the neck and bridge positions. Paul himself described them as having all the best qualities of a good P90-style pickup, but without the hum. You can still achieve rich, creamy lead lines and get plenty of bass response, but you'll never have to worry about muddying up the mix - and the coil-split switches add even more options!

The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar, the iconic instrument that started it all back in 1985. The Custom 24-08 keeps many of the foundational specs as the original Custom – maple top, mahogany back and neck, 24 frets, 25” scale length, the PRS patented Gen III tremolo – but adds a new level of versatility with its TCI pickups and intuitive switching system. Featuring two mini-toggle coil-tap switches, the Custom 24-08 has eight different pickup settings that provide an array of humbucking and single coil tones, including a dual single coil option. For 2024, PRS Guitars is updating the tuning machines on many of our Core guitars. While, aesthetically, our new Wing buttons are designed to echo the 12th fret bird wingspan design, they were first and foremost designed for tonal reasons all the way back in 1982. Because these buttons are lighter weight than their metal predecessors, they are subtracting less energy from the vibrating strings, thus helping the guitar ring longer and at a more musical note.
