Player's Perspective

Moog has been building synthesizers for decades, and they've finally applied their encyclopaedic knowledge of all things analog to inexpensive, expertly crafted pedals. This Minifooger Ring Modulator is one of the most interestingly bizarre, creative and rich toned pedals we've come across. Based on the infamous MF-102, this pedal can produce tones we guarantee you haven't heard. Dialed in one way, it sounds like a chorus and trem pedal had an illicit child that got a degree in avant garde electronic music; dialed in another way, it sounds like an effect so musical that it would've been integral to David Gilmour's tone had this pedal been available in 1970. Everything from octaves and choral dissonance to harmonic undertones and synthesized lead lines come out of this little box.

What makes these Minifoogers so much fun is that they are kind of like instruments unto themselves. While most pedals are somewhat 2-dimensional in their approach - step here, sound of pedal will come out - this pedal gives the user much more flexibility and control. The controls are frequency, mix, and tone, and you can expect a whole different world of sound from a simple 1/4 turn of any of those knobs. There's also an expression pedal input, so you can control the frequency knob in real time.

This is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to explore uncharted sonic territory. Hats off to Moog for shaking things up in the pedal world.
