Mayones Jabba MalaMan 5 Signature 5-String Bass, Antique Violet Raw

This beauty celebrates another collaboration between the incredibly talented Italian bassist, Federico Malaman, and the incredible builders at Mayones. The MalaMan bass sports a P pickups in the neck position and an MM style humbucker in the bridge position. It's also extremely reasonably weighted for a 5-string coming in under 9 lbs. So this is definitely a winner for any gigging musician needing versatility and comfort.

Each of Federico's signature bases have a distinctly different pickpu configuration. With that is going to come distinctly different tones. The P pickup gives you a nice, full, round, and wooly sound. The MM pickup in the bridge gives a lot of bark and punchiness that tightens it all up. You can also split the bridge humbucker to just being a single-coil pickup for a more traditional P/J vibe. You can also run it in parallel for a tone that's going to be more reminiscent of a StingRay vibe. But, personally,  I think it sounds awesome at full power in series mode where the humbucker is just hitting like a sledgehammer with loads of bottom end. The three different voices for the humbucker gives you a bunch of tone-shaping options without even touching the 3-band EQ on the bass.

The neck is extremely fast, thin, and flat. It feels awesome and the overall construction of it, especially the fretwork, is extremely precise and allows for this bass to achieve crazy low action. A specially contoured neck heel for easy upper frets access, absolutely expert craftsmanship and overall meticulous attention to detail help make this one of the best boutique 5-string basses on the market!
