Player's Perspective

Music Store Live is proud to offer up this all-new CLF L-2500 from our friends over at G&L. The L-2000 CLF basses that have been out for a couple of years now have been really hot and the reviews were always positive on them. So then they decided to add the 5-string version so you no longer have to make a decision between "do I want a G&L CLF bass or do I want a 5-string?"

The L-2000 combined unmatched comfort with versatile, powerful electronics, creating one of the best all-purpose basses on the market. The L-2500 now adds a tight, punchy, and thunderous b-string to the mix. Making this even cooler is the throwback aesthetics to back when Leo Fender was first designing this model. One could easily argue that G&L's legacy would not be what it is today if it weren't for the invention of the L-basses.

The neck and fretboard feel incredibly smooth. Open-position grooves are easy, and the upper register is very forgiving on your playing hand. G&L uses a smooth, velvety finish on their necks, so the wood still feels like wood and will never glob up on you. Tone-wise, this bass is a beast! It manages to provide seemingly unlimited sonic options and the pickups pump out some solid mid-range so you'll never get lost in a mix. In passive and active modes the bass sounds thunderous with the powerful MFD pickups that pack serious punch.

The bass can be run in passive mode, active mode, or active with a treble boost. There's also a series/parallel switch depending on if you want fat and thick or barky and growly sounds. The G&L passive bass and treble tone knobs are like a traditional passive tone knob but they each cut a smaller range of bass and treble frequencies for a bit more specific tone-shaping than a traditional passive tone knob would provide. You can dial in your exact sound and be as particular as you want, whether you play blues, metal, jazz, rock, or funk. It's an incredibly versatile swiss-army knife bass that can pack the punch of a hundred sledgehammers or sound smooth and velvety.

Special Features

In the late 1970s, Clarence Leo Fender† was looking forward to launching his new G&L brand featuring his latest innovations including Magnetic Field Design pickups and the Saddle Lock bridge. Leo developed these technologies at his CLF™ Research company, and production of the new G&L instruments took place in the CLF Research factory on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, where G&L production continues today.

The new CLF Research L•2500 pays homage to its roots with classic details including the early CLF/G&L headstock and neck profile, beautifully reproduced aluminum CLF knobs, elegant-chrome control plate housing the Tri-Tone Preamp* and color-coded mini toggle switch tips.

*Tri•Tone Pre-Amp-Active Bass Pre-Amp Circuitry. Treble and Bass controls, Series/Parallel Selector Switch, and a 3-position switch for pre-amp ON/OFF and treble boost. Incredible sonic versatility for any playing style from poppin’ funk to high-tech-fusion to pounding metal.
