Player's Perspective

Fresh from Fender's Time Machine series, Music Store Live is proud to offer up this new Custom Shop 1951 Nocaster Journeyman Relic guitar!

There's also a ton of expectations to live up to when Fender's Custom Shop decides to hang their hat on a claim that they have successfully duplicated one of the most iconic guitars that Leo was building back in the early days of the company. But when the finished product really is this good and truly is that representative of the guitar it's trying to replicate, then it's hard to be anything but thoroughly impressed. And this beauty leaves quite the impression as soon as you strum the first chord on it. The entire guitar comes to live and resonates against your body and, before even plugging it in, we were already in sold on it.

We've come to really love the journeyman relic that Fender's Custom Shop does, so we wanted to age this beauty with respect and finesse. So while the guitar certainly looks like it's seen some time on the road, on the big stage, and in recording studios around the world, it also doesn't look like you had to pull it out of a house fire to save it. All of the wear that is strategically and meticulously placed on this guitar is done just right and none of it is over-the-top. Even the marks on the fretboard are there in a way that you can see it and they look cool but you won't feel them and they won't get in the way of your playing at all. It'll just feel like a neck that has already been gently broken in for you and is just waiting for you to continue the process.

Sonically this is as good as it gets. It sounds just like the real thing! The hand-wound Custom Shop pickups are rich and the neck pickup oozes rich, creamy sounds while the bridge screams and slices with as much twang as you could ever need. 60-cycle hum is kept to a minimum thanks to the superb construction and shielding and, of course, the playability is simply the stuff of dreams. With nothing to get in your way, this is the kind of guitar that will unlock potential in your playing that you may not have even realized was there. Everything is so effortless and the sound is so glorious...

Fender's Custom Shop team absolutely hit this one out of the park and then some!

Manufacturer's Details

An elusive legend among Fender® aficionados, the Nocaster® has an interesting history. Originally called the “Broadcaster” during its initial production run in ’50, it was renamed after a request from The Gretsch Company, which offered a drum set named “Broadkaster”. As a cost-saving measure Fender® simply cut the name off the headstock label with scissors, leaving just the famous Fender logo until late ‘51 when they received their new name, Telecaster®. The lack of model name led to these guitars being christened “Nocasters” by collectors—very few were produced and their sound and feel are legendary among players who know.

Bursting at the seams with early 50’s style and comfort, the Time Machine Nocaster® wields Fender® Custom Shop hand-wound “Loaded” ‘51 Nocaster® neck and bridge pickups, bordered by a black phenolic pickguard. This Holy Grail of Tele® guitars also features a “10/56 V”-shaped quartersawn AA flame maple neck that’s ideal for any playing style and thumb position.

Other highlights include a 9.5”-radius fingerboard, 6105 frets, Fat ‘50s Tele wiring, 3-way switch, ’51-’54 bridge with brass saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and round string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.

Player's Perspective

Fresh from Fender's 2018 Postmodern series, Music Store Live is proud to offer up this new Custom Shop Telecaster! The journeyman relic job on it gives the guitar some great mojo without making it look like it was completely abused. It just looks like it's been well cared for, but played a good bit... Just as these instruments were intended for.

The first thing you're likely to notice when you get this guitar into your hands is going to be the way the neck feels. They've sanded it down just a little bit so that it's silky smooth and doesn't have any of that stickiness that glossy necks can sometimes experience. It really feels like the neck on a guitar, finished in nitro, that has been played regularly for 15 - 20 years. Combined with the amazing fretwork, which is pure perfection, makes playing this guitar a true joy.

You know you're getting a special instrument in your hands any time you pick up something built by Fender's Custom Shop team, and this guitar is sure to not only meet but exceed those already lofty expectations.
