PRS Paul Reed Smith Private Stock Custom 24-08 Guitar, Stained Curly Maple, Laguna Dragon's Breath

As a premier PRS Signature dealer, we are honored to bring you another unique and beautiful creation from our friends over at the Paul Reed Smith Private Stock workshop! There's never any question as to the quality of the instrument you're getting when you get any PRS guitar, but there's something magical with these Private Stock instruments. They're simply unlike any other PRS guitar out there. For this one, we started with a Custom 24-08 model, a versatile take on the venerable Custom 24 with individual coil-split switches, and chose a gorgeous Laguna Dragon's Breath stain.

The beautiful curly maple top is fantastically matched, which we are always big fans of, and it pairs well with the stained curly maple neck when you spin the guitar around. The finish staining process is always done by hand and they all come out a little different - we're absolutely thrilled with how this particular Laguna Dragon's Breath application came out! The back of the neck is equally vivacious, featuring another highly-figured piece of stained curly maple that gives you something real nice to look at while you play.

The real star of the show here visually is the fretboard. Using exquisite pieces of ebony and curly maple, PRS pulled off one of their signature Private Stock fingerboard looks by transitioning the fretboard from one wood type to another using intricate inlay work for an incredibly cohesive, striking and flowing look. They also stained the curly maple part of the fretboard and headstock inlay (as well as the tuner buttons and back covers!) a matching Laguna Dragon's Breath to truly bring it over the top. The overall painting and finishing work on this guitar is simply masterful.

For this one-of-a-kind build, we selected PRS's "Metal" pickups for the ultimate combination of beauty and power. As the name might imply, they are certainly a bit overwound, but they are far from being one-trick ponies. They obviously sound incredible with higher gain settings, but can also handle clean tones with ease - rather than thinking of them as strictly "metal" pickups, they're really just a bit more overwound than the 85/15 pickups that come stock on Core PRS guitars. The two pickup sets share a lot of the same voicing.

The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar, the iconic instrument that started it all back in 1985. The Custom 24-08 keeps all of the same foundational specifications as the original Custom – maple top, mahogany back and neck, 24 frets, 25” scale length, the PRS patented Gen III tremolo, and dual 85/15 pickups – but adds a new level of versatility with its simple switching system. Featuring mini-toggle coil-split switches, the Custom 24-08 has eight different pickup settings that provide an array of humbucking and singlecoil tones, including a dual singlecoil option unique for this model.
