Player's Perspective
The Jazzmaster is an articulate and soulful guitar serving much more than just jazz guitarists. Though it does lend itself incredibly well to big, round, warm jazz tones, the Jazzmaster can also get twangy and spanky, like in you've heard in so much Surf Rock in the 60's and 70's. The bridge pickup sparkles, but it also has a thickness to it that you simply can't get out of single coils, while also having a crispness to it that you can't get out of humbuckers. The neck pickup is creamy and works really well for rhythm or lead parts. The pickups sound great clean or with just a touch of distortion on them. Add a little more overdrive and saturation and you'll start to hear what all the hype on these V-Mod pickups is about. The pickups have a bit more power to them, which helps the tone of the guitar remain defined and articulate even when there's some fuzz or distortion being added to the mix. An old-school tremolo bridge provides the vintage aesthetic, but make no mistake about it, there are improvements to this one which help give the guitar greater sustain as well as intonation reliability. You can really wail away on the tremolo without worrying about going out of tune, or simply lightly flutter away on it to add some mellow vibrato to your licks. The deep C shaped neck isn't too chunky, but definitely gives you something to hold onto while you're playing, so it doesn't feel like you have a toothpick for a guitar neck. This is an extremely versatile axe that can really cover just about any genre for you. Keeping in line with all of the new American Professional guitars, this one is really impressing us and the improvements are instantly noticeable.
Item Details
Originally intended for sophisticated jazz guitarists, the Jazzmaster was quickly embraced by musicians attracted to its left-of-center looks and fat sound. A direct descendent of the guitar that powered underground music from the late-‘60s to today, the American Professional Jazzmaster is ready to lend its unique sound to your playing. V-Mod Jazzmaster pickups are voiced specifically for their positions, overwound for high-output tone with vintage warmth and the crisp, clear sound that made Fender a legend. Designed for comfort and speed, the new American Professional “Deep C” neck profile sports more substantial shoulders—somewhat between a “Modern C”- and “U”-shaped profile. The increased mass and altered geometry creates a more natural feel that’s perfect for chord and single-note playing alike. Narrow-tall frets are taller and narrower than their medium jumbo cousins, making them especially effective for bending notes and playing chords up the neck with perfect intonation. Engineered for ultra-stable performance, the American Professional Jazzmaster bridge features brass Mustang saddles and a screw-in arm. The new saddles keep the strings where they belong, even when the bridge is pummeled, while the new arm lets you dial-in the arm tension that’s perfect for you. The treble-bleed circuit maintains the high end when turning down the volume knob to reduce gain, letting your tone shine through, no matter where the instrument’s volume is set.
