The Jazzmaster's musical role has been changing and evolving since it was introduced in 1965. It's no surprise that creative players who don't fall neatly into one category or another are drawn to the design. Troy Van Leeuwen, guitarist for Queens of the Stone Age, outfitted this Jazzmaster to his exact liking. It's essentially a '65 Jazzmaster with a few minor tweaks and a great finish. The normal tone circuit slider has been replaced with a typical two-way toggle for easy use. The neck is fast and comfortable, with a very cozy upper register. The sound is all there: jangly and bright or thick and mellow, depending on how you dial it in. Everything else about this axe is totally classic. A must for the Troy Van Leeuwen fan, this guitar is also sure to satisfy anyone looking for an old school styled Jazzmaster for a great price.

This Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Signature Jazzmaster features an alder body with an oxblood finish. The maple neck is a classic C shape, and it sports a bound rosewood board with 21 vintage style frets, a 7.25" radius, and pearloid block inlays. For pickups, you'll find two American Vintage '65 Single-Coil Jazzmasters. These pickups really thicken up with some grit but also offer plenty of chime and sparkle through a clean setting. The Jazzmaster tone circuit is alive and well, but it's controlled by a 2-way toggle rather than a slider switch. Design subtleties like the vintage style tuners, white "witch hat" tuners, and matching headstock give this guitar a classic look. If you want an old school Jazzmaster but don't want to spend your life savings, this axe needs to be on your radar.
