PRS Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 Floyd Rose Guitar, Purple Iris
The guitar industry hasn't been the same since the Custom 24 was introduced some 30 years ago. It's always been a versatile, blazing axe, but PRS has souped it even more as of late by offering this shred-ready "Floyd" Custom 24. This one has some really nice figuring, especially for not being a 10-Top. The purple iris finish is new for PRS's 2021/2022 lineup.
The Custom 24 Floyd has everything that's kept PRS and the Custom 24 flagship model in this limelight for so long - that slinky, effortless fretboard feel, unmatched aesthetics, and impeccable craftsmanship throughout. But this version adds a Floyd Rose bridge, locking nut, and PRS's hottest pickups, which are overwound compared to their offerings but still have loads of versatility and sound great even when played clean. The result is a searing hot axe that blends unsurpassed PRS quality with more shred-happy freedom, a perfect combination for a lot of players. This instrument is particularly impressive for its ability to retain a distinct, well-defined tonal identity regardless of the volume or amount of gain. The ebony fretboard and maple neck combine to make the sound crisper, more cutting, and very clear. Great for if you're going to be throwing distortion or heavy gain on top.
Push the distortion all you want - it'll still sound like itself, and you'll still sound like you with lots of clarity and articulation. Dial the gain back and clean it up and you'll see this guitar is still musical enough to sound beautiful while perfectly clean as well. While it is certainly designed with the metal shredder in mind, it is still immensely versatile. We actually love using these pickups in a lot of our Custom 24 Wood Library runs. We think they are almost misnamed, in reality. They are hot, and they are overwound, certainly compared to other PRS pickups, but they're excellent for a whole heck of a lot more than just metal music. But, of course, with the electronics and hardware combination, it's clear who this shred-tastic axe is geared for.
If you love the Custom 24 but need more trem arm freedom and hotter pickups, this is your weapon of choice.
The Core Custom 24 "Floyd" is equipped with the time-tested Floyd Rose "Original" tremolo system and PRS's \m/ (metal) pickups (uncovered). The Floyd Rose "Original" tremolo and locking nut tuning system is a double-locking design precision-made from high quality steel. This design combination allows players to lock the string at the nut and at the bridge to keep the guitar in tune even during the heaviest dive-bombing sessions.
The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model that Paul Reed Smith brought to the public at PRS Guitars’ first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since.

Pattern Neck Shapes:
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of our quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. These new neck shapes reflect modern tooling and programming that allows us to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce our necks. The "Pattern Thin" neck is an updated version of PRS’s traditional Wide Thin neck.
It’s All in the Details: TCI-Tuned Pickups
Paul Reed Smith is known as a man who studies history, scrutinizes the details, and never stops applying what he learns to his own instruments. It is that passion, care, and tenacity that has permeated PRS Guitars’ culture and led to the constant evolution of PRS products. Last year, PRS announced TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) pickups on the Paul’s Guitar. But, TCI is more than a pickup, it’s a process. That process has now been applied to all PRS pickups offered on our Core line of instruments, with the exception of a few artist Signature models.
“TCI stands for Tuned Capacitance Inductance. When you wind a pickup, the coils are capacitors, resistors, and inductors simultaneously. Our more refined ability to be able to tune those factors is what we have incorporated into TCI pickups,” said Paul Reed Smith. “To our ears, the results are very musical. We are very proud of how far we’ve come in the understanding and making of pickups. It’s been a fun process.
