Unlike the StingRay, the Sterling has ceramic magnets in the pickups which are going to have a bit of a higher output and they'll tend to be a bit more aggressive sounding with more mid-range to them. The neck has a comfortable, natural feel. Four string players won't feel lost, even with the extra size. Intuitive on-board EQing options make it easy to dial in your exact sound. As with its 4 string counterpart, the Sterling 5 boasts a big sound in a smaller more ergonomic design. 9 volt active 3 band EQ, 3 position pickup selector switch and a ceramic humbucker with hum canceling phantom coil come standard on the Sterling 5, allowing this bass it to cut through any mix. An additional humbucker in the neck position is optional and only adds to its tonal versatility.
